What defines the France → Portugal corridor

This is our longest run to the south-west. It crosses the whole Iberian peninsula.

The route goes through Spain — Irún or La Jonquera depending on the loading point — then on to Porto or Lisbon. French, Spanish and Portuguese tolls are built into the quote and never invoiced afterwards.

The dominant flows are French and German used vehicles into the Portuguese market, and end-of-lease returns. Allow 2 to 3 working days of driving after loading.

Car transport France → Portugal: why the return leg is in the price

Portugal is the end of the line: beyond Porto or Lisbon there is no onward traffic to pick up. A truck that goes down has to come back north, loaded or not, and that return leg is inside the price however it is presented. A per-kilometre rate hides that invisible half of the journey; we would rather cost the whole trip, out and back together, and say so plainly. Allow 2 to 3 working days of driving after loading.

That leaves the question of how many vehicles share the trip. Portuguese traffic is mostly used cars and end-of-lease returns — compacts, which reach the upper deck without trouble. The carrier has 9 slots, and a Golf accounts for 1 slot in 9. Slip a tall van into the same load and the arithmetic turns: above roughly 1,750 mm a vehicle stays on the lower deck — an ID.Buzz takes 1 slot in 4.

One lever dominates here: the collection window. The return load is usually found in Spain, on the way, and putting it together takes time; letting collection shift by a few days does more for your unit cost than anything else. On the route itself, part of the Portuguese network runs on electronic tolling — no barrier, gantries read the vehicle and bill the carrier after the event, so it is already carried in the trip price you receive.

Everything you need to know about transport France - Portugal

Allow 4 to 6 working days between collection and delivery. This time depends on loading points, truck fill rate and delivery windows: it is indicative and confirmed on the quotation.

The cost of a trip is the truck, the driver, the diesel and the tolls (around 1200 km on this route) and it barely changes with what is loaded. The price per car is that cost divided by the number of vehicles on board. Our carrier is worth 9 slots and a vehicle’s overall size — height, length and width together — decides: a Polo takes 1 slot in 9, an ID.4 1 in 7, an ID.Buzz 1 in 4. A single car on a dedicated truck is therefore the most expensive case; the same car in a full load costs a fraction. To bring the price down: consolidate several vehicles, mix the sizes, stay flexible on the date, and give the models rather than just the count. Reply within 2 working hours, firm price confirmed after checking addresses and date, no commitment.

Within the EU, no customs formalities. Prepare the registration certificate, a proof of ownership or invoice if applicable, and the contact details for pick-up and delivery. A CMR consignment note and a condition report are issued at collection.

Yes. At loading you receive a written confirmation and a tracking link for your shipment, with no account and no password: it places the truck within an approach zone of about 10 km and shows the kilometres left. If you would rather just ask, your contact will give you the position and the estimated delivery.

Yes. Your vehicles are covered by our insurance throughout the transport; the coverage details are specified in your quote.

Of the 8,400 vehicles we actually transported over the last twelve months, across all corridors, half fall between €200 and €450 excl. VAT per vehicle, and between €171 and €300 when grouped from 4 vehicles. Portugal is the end of the line: the truck’s return leg, loaded or not, is always in the price however it is presented — which is why the collection window is the lever that matters most here. The price depends on the number of vehicles, their size and your flexibility on the date: enter your route on the site for a real range immediately.
